Post-Lockdown Hair Trends

Post-Lockdown Hair Style Ideas From Simone Thomas Hairdressing Salon in Bournemouth

Looking for some inspiration for your long-awaited post-lockdown hairdressing appointment?   For many of us the end of lockdown has felt like emerging from a long period of hibernation, so it’s the perfect time to try that new style you’ve been dreaming of for so many months.  Are you ready to shed your over-grown locks for a shorter style?  Or perhaps the temptation to take the scissors to your fringe during those long months at home proved too much, and you’re now looking for a hair repair?

Since re-opening our award-winning Bournemouth hair salon, we’ve had many requests for a restyle with clients wanting a “new-me“.  Our Senior Director Sophie says “Being deprived of the salon for just over 3 months, clients have been itching to get in to see us at Simone Thomas!  We all get so used to going into the salon and just asking for the same thing over and over, but after months of seeing the same old dull and lifeless hair, a lot of people now feel it’s time for a change.”

Whatever your current hair concerns, at Simone Thomas we’re here to help and advise you, restoring your locks to their former glory.   So what are the trending hair styles right now?

Post Lockdown Hair Trends Bournemouth Hair SalonBobs and Lobs

Now’s the perfect time to go for the chop, with a new, shorter hairstyle often seen as symbolising a new beginning.   Some have also argued that shorter hair is more hygienic in the current climate as it requires less blow-drying.  It’s also easier to keep clean and less likely to touch your face and mask, thus reducing any risk of contamination.

At our Bournemouth salon we’ve noticed a huge demand for the Lob (or Long Bob) since we re-opened.   Simone modelled this style at home after doing her own hair during lockdown and posting pictures on social media, prompting many clients to ask for The Simone hair cut!  We’d like to think that Simone is setting this 2020 hair trend but the Lob was also on display on the Paris catwalks and fashion blogs earlier in the year!

Lauren, our Head of Education says, “The Lob is very much in style now, and I would say possibly in the next few months it will be the same but with more texture added.  People have learnt over lockdown that they can have a more relaxed look and still look glam and funky.”

We have received many requests for advice on volumising products, which allow you to wash and go, working with your natural hair and volume.   We always recommend Davines volumising products, but after months of lockdown neglect, your hair will be in need of some TLC to get the best out of your new haircut.   Book in for a hair treatment with your next appointment – ask your stylist for advice on the best one for your particular hair concerns.

Girls With Curls

Curly hairWe have seen many clients coming back to us wanting to embrace their natural curly hair.  At our Westbourne hair salon we specialise in curly and afro hair, and have the skills and experience to help you get the most out of your natural locks, adding moisture with a hydrating treatment when needed or perhaps some face-framing colour.

We’re delighted to help you embrace what you have and work with your own hair.   Simone says, “It is amazing what can be done with curls and how you can create a whole new face shape and style if you can live with your natural perm.”   To prevent your curly hair from seeming a little flat, boring or frizzy, curls need to be cut into a strong shape.    They also require a few key hair care products, specifically designed to enhance your curls and add shine.   Speak to your Simone Thomas stylist who’ll be able to recommend the best products for you from our Davines hair care range.

As Simone says ” Short curly hair framed around the face is a head turner.  Embrace the look with your favourite lipstick, a gorgeous top and beautiful gold hoop earnings – Beyonce out the way. ”

Long Hair Styles Au NaturalLong and natural balayage

After months of being unable to visit their stylist, many people have found their hair reaching new lengths.   Embracing this in a longer, natural looking style is a popular post-lockdown choice.  Adding layers can give some texture and definition to the look.

We have also noticed clients choosing to remove their extensions now, opting instead for a  restyle and more natural approach as their own hair has grown much longer.  Adding a full head of balayage is a great way to add more depth and thickness in the hair after removing extensions.

We also recommend Simone Thomas Wellness Biotin Hair Growth Plan to really give your natural hair a boost when you’re growing it.

Fifty Shades of Grey

Grey 2
Lockdown has given many of us the chance to reassess our natural hair colour – in a way we haven’t done for years!  At Simone Thomas we’ve seen many clients wanting to embrace their grey coming through, whilst adding subtle highlights.   Grey hair is highly fashionable, but many clients were previously put off by the difficulty of the “in-between” stage of allowing their hair to grow out naturally.   Having had no choice but to do this over lockdown, they are now finding they are over half way there!

If you’re inspired to embrace your natural silver locks, you can add shimmer with the Davines Alchemic range of shampoos and conditioners, which will prevent any unwanted brassiness creeping in.

We’d also recommend an Olaplex treatment to really bring your silver hair back to life after lockdown.    Did you know?  You can add a little Olaplex to your silver conditioner to get double the effect!
