Imagine moving to another country to study and make a better life for yourself and your family – but instead you find yourself stuck inside, crippled by social anxiety? That’s what happened to Mehroz Ashraf. He moved to England from Pakistan via Dubai, but, rather than being able to enjoy student life at Lancaster University, he felt too anxious to venture out. He found out he was suffering from Male Pattern Baldness, a male hair loss condition that happens to a lot of men – but more usually at an advanced age.
Male hair loss from an early age
“I found myself losing my hair at an early age,” he said. “I just didn’t feel confident enough to go out and approach other people – it seemed easier to stay in on my own.”
But studying a senior management university degree, it meant he had more than just the books to worry about. His image was part of the package. And when Mehroz, 23, started his placement year, he couldn’t hide away any more. He had to find a way to interact with others and put his years of study into practice.
“I was lucky enough to get a placement in Bournemouth and I just fell in love with the town,” he said. “I love walking on the beach, horse riding, anything outdoors. But I felt so anxious most of the time.”
Mehroz started losing his hair aged 17. It was pointed out by family members and people at college. By the time he moved to the UK, aged 20, he had spent a fortune on products but still not found a solution.
“I was losing more and more hair as time went on,” Mehroz said. “The hair regrowth treatments I tried were so expensive and didn’t seem to solve the problem. The thought of using them over a lifetime was not something I wanted to do. I even looked at a hair transplant – I was that desperate!”
Mehroz’s Story – Male Pattern Baldness
“I was still nervous before my first appointment with Simone, though,” Mehroz said. “I didn’t know what to expect. I’m not a vain man – I just wanted to feel more confident at work and at home. Simone got that straight away and assured me I was in safe hands. What’s more, she explained quickly and clearly what she could do to help. She even gave me three options! After years of thinking that there was no solution, that was so very good to hear.”
Male hair loss consultation with Simone Thomas
After a scalp analysis and a long and detailed consultation with Simone at her hair loss clinic in Bournemouth, Mehroz and Simone decided a hair unit was the best way forward. So after a short wait he returned to the salon to be fitted with a custom made unit which matched his existing hair colour perfectly; it was then cut and restyled – to his own preference and one that suited him and his personality. He was absolutely astounded as to how amazing it looked and felt – and said it was so light and comfortable on his head.
“It’s absolutely brilliant. I trust and adore Simone and her team so much. Before, I didn’t want to look in the mirror. I felt like I looked old. Now I feel confident and relaxed; my family love my new look too!”
“Simone is someone really special. She empathises with her clients. She has given me my life back. My career has taken off like a rocket due to my new look. The hair is cut and styled exactly like I wanted it to be.”
Simone said: “I was touched by Mehroz’s story – to move across the globe took a lot of courage and he deserves to enjoy this life that he has worked so hard for. I’m happy that I could help in this small way and hope that other men are inspired by his story.”
