Our hair loss specialists at Simone Thomas understand that experiencing hair loss can be devastating and often unexpected. We may try to downplay it as an aesthetic feature but in reality, nobody wants to lose their hair. In the UK alone there are some estimated 8+ million women suffering from hair loss. The Simone Thomas hair loss clinic and their experienced staff have helped hundreds of people restore their confidence through several hair loss treatments, including human hair and synthetic wigs.
The Diagnosis and Consultation for a Wig
At the Simone Thomas hair loss clinic in Bournemouth, we offer in depth consultations before suggesting a hair loss treatment. Wigs are a popular treatment for our clients with Alopecia, male and female pattern baldness, cancer hair loss and more.
Choosing between human hair or synthetic wigs
Once your diagnosis is made, we will present your wig options, show examples and explain prices. There are two main types of wig: synthetic and human hair wigs.
Synthetic wigs are created from man-made fibres and typically last for three to six months, costing anywhere between £80 to £400. The fibres of a longer styled synthetic wig may break down over time due to friction and heat and become bushy, therefore you will need to replace this more often than a human hair wig. However, the benefits of a synthetic wig are the cost and the fact that it requires little maintenance, except a wash and air dry as they are pre-styled.
Human hair wigs can last from 12 months to 2 years, can be styled and treated as you would your own hair and cost between £200 and £2,000. The benefits of a human hair wig are that they are more versatile, so you can apply heat and dry and style the wig in several different ways (curly, wavy, straight).
Once you have chosen whether to have a human hair or synthetic wig in Bournemouth, London or Reading, we will arrange another appointment with you for fitting. At your next appointment, we will show you our extensive collection of human hair wigs and synthetic wigs that you can come and try out in total privacy.
Wig Fittings
Both types of wigs will be cut and styled to suit you, or if you have chosen a custom human hair wig, we will design and have the wig made according to your facial features, style and hair colour so that it looks completely natural. Please note that a custom designed wig will take 12 weeks to make.
For those about to experience cancer hair loss, we can help you with a human hair or synthetic wig before your treatment occurs and our consultations are free.
Human hair and synthetic wig aftercare
To extend the life of your human hair wig or synthetic wig and keep it looking beautiful the proper care products are essential. Synthetic wigs require care products specifically formulated for synthetic hair. You cannot use high street shampoo and conditioner on a synthetic wig. When you purchase a wig at our hair loss clinic in Dorset we will advise you on the correct products to use. We have a variety of shampoos and conditioners and wig oil specially formulated for synthetic hair wigs. For human hair wigs, choose a sulphate-free shampoo and conditioner or products specifically formulated for colour treated hair to keep the colour looking vibrant for longer. You will not need to wash your wig as often as you would wash your own hair. Again, your hair loss specialist will advise you on the correct method of washing your wig and how often you should do it. Some ladies like to book in for a wash and blow dry for their wig as they still like to feel like a monthly treat at the salon!
