Many hair salons claim that tightly curled or afro hair takes too long to cut. The more likely reason is the salon does not have fully qualified staff to style afro hair. Until 2015, training for afro hair types was a separate module from the standard hairdressing NVQ. However, the curriculum has since been updated to keep up with multicultural changes and now all students are trained to cut and style afro hair.
