Todays’ blog is all about hair colour and how to keep your colour in the best condition it could possibly be.
Number 1 DO NOT COLOUR YOURSELF! You may have spent a lot of time and a lot of money trying to get your hair to the colour you want, please do not undo all your time and money. We will be back as soon as we can.
So, how can you disguise your faded colour or grown out roots whilst the hair salon is closed? There are a few options to help at home one which are natural products and won’t cause damage to your own hair, irritation to your scalp and hair follicles, many other products have a lot of dangerous chemicals and can cause burns and hair loss; I know which one I would choose right now.
This won’t be anywhere near as good as a professional colour application, but it is pretty close and a product we should all have in our bathrooms is the Davines Alchemic Shampoo and Conditioner. I like to leave the shampoo on for 5 minutes for each wash (I wash my hair twice) and then leave the conditioner on for 20 minutes. I use this weekly (at the moment every time I wash my hair as I currently rocking red hair and I want it to remain vibrant even in lock down). Davines Alchemic shampoo is a great way to add colour, depth and shine to tired looking hair and your hair colour – the best part about this product is it is Vegan, and it smells so amazing you literally want to eat it. You can buy this on our online shop here.
If you are wanting a spray for your roots and don’t want to use the shampoo and conditioner range from Davines, then you can buy online or in the supermarkets colour coverage spray products or powders to help cover your roots. If you have to do this then I would recommend a fantastic product by the amazing Phil Smith – Root Touch Up Spray.
If you can’t buy a root coverage spray then I don’t advise home colour application, the amount of hair loss clients we have had come to us from scalp burns and reactions is in the thousands over the years some of who have even made national press about the issues caused and 80% hair loss.
Years ago we were on Channel 4 Body Shockers for this very reason helping a woman who lost her hair due to home hair dye applications. If you think a professional salon has to do a patch test 48 hours before there is a reason for this. It is a chemical compound you are applying to delicate skin and hair and home hair dye kits state that you must patch test 24 – 48 hours prior to dyeing. However, we rarely ever see this when we have to do colour correction or in severe cases fit a hair loss system due to a chemical reaction which results in hair loss. Please leave it to the professionals.
If you don’t want to buy any new products but want to keep your colour lasting as long as possible then make sure any hair products you are using are 100% sulphate free. Also, try to wash your hair less often to stop you from losing the natural oils and keep as much moisture in the hair. To prevent seeing all of your colour go down the drain, try shampooing with slightly warm water and then rinse with cold water after conditioning. The warm water will allow the shampoo and conditioner to penetrate and cleanse, while the cold water will help seal in the moisture from your conditioner while preventing colour from fading by sealing the hair’s cuticle.
If you have any other queries over this period about your hair colour, please message us on social media or email us: email@example.com and we will respond within 72 hrs.
