Dorset based student Betzy really has a story to tell!
At the age of just 16 Betzy was unfortunately diagnosed with Leukaemia by Kings College in London; after intensive Chemotherapy she caught a severe infection and was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit – which resulted in a long 18 month long road to recovery.
During this time Betzy’s weight dropped down to just four stone and she drastically lost her hair, almost overnight – which could only be attributed to the trauma of everything that her body had gone through.
Doctors and Surgeons said that her hair would indeed grow back, but three years on this was not the case. Despairing, Betzy went to see a Dermatologist in Brighton who confirmed that her hair would probably not return as the hair follicles had been permanently damaged – which was due, in his opinion, to the medication she has received during her illness.
Wigs as a hair loss treatment
Betzy had turned to wigs, as she was not comfortable in going out in public suffering from hair loss. But the wigs were just not suiting Betzy… she commented that they were always uncomfortable, hot, didn’t fit properly – they certainly were not suitable for exercise – quite simply just not right for Betzy and her lifestyle.
After some research she soon discovered hair loss treatments for women offered by London salons, which she thought was the answer to her prayers – but they in time became uncomfortable, the glue used to hold it in place didn’t suit her skin.
Finally, after almost giving up, further research led Betzy to discover Simone Thomas hair loss salon – who she initially visited to get help and advice. Betzy was delighted with the initial meeting with Simone (who had lost her own hair twice herself – so completely understood Betzy’s predicament), in the salon Betzy went through a number of skin patch tests and fittings – and some weeks later was fitted with a new hair loss treatment.
Since that day, Betzy has never ever looked back! Since visiting Simone, Betzy has recently had fitted a new (her second) human hair wig and absolutely loves it! “It’s even lighter and more comfortable (if that’s at all possible) than my previous one!” she says. It’s a lace-cap system that is the latest system on the market.
Betzy says “After years of wearing wigs and systems that just did not work for me, I’m so happy with what I have now. Simone has been absolutely fantastic!”
“I was lucky enough to have some financial help of the Tuesday O’Hara Fund – who help hair loss patients with the costs associated with Hair Replacement Systems like mine. They are a brilliant charity, and I’m so thankful for the help and support they offered me.”
Simone Thomas says “Betzy is an absolute delight to work with, and she is absolutely stunningly beautiful. It’s essential to us that we work with our clients really closely to find the most perfect system for them. In Betzy’s case it was the non-surgical hair replacement system – which avoids costly and painful surgery.“
Betzy finally commented: “I feel great in my new Hair Replacement Unit – it’s so comfortable, liberating, and just so easy to care for – just like real hair. I can play sport comfortably, be as active as I like, wash it, style it as to how I want. In fact it’s just like having a fantastic full set of hair – and I can just forget about it. I cannot recommend Simone Thomas highly enough, and her team of specialists – I genuinely wouldn’t be the person I am today if it wasn’t for them!”
