Choosing a Toupée
When you are choosing a toupée, or hairpiece, the most important consideration is that it blends in with the rest of your hair. Both the colour and texture should look like they belong with the natural hair, no matter how little of it is left on your head. If your toupée looks too stiff and unnatural, it’s going to look fake. It’s important to set a budget when buying a hairpiece, but don’t look at price alone. A human hair toupée will typically cost more than a synthetic one, yet the difference in appearance can be notable.
Fitting a Toupée
While attempts are made to match the toupée’s colour to the natural hair colour of the wearer, sometimes the colours are not identical. This colour mismatch is often exacerbated when a toupée is poorly cared for and fades or the wearer’s hair colour turns grey while the toupée retains its original colour. Here at Simone Thomas, we have a team of experts to ensure that the toupée matches your hair colour and looks as natural as possible. New technology has allowed hair manufacturers to mimic human hair, overcoming many of the weaknesses of human hair.
Use and Maintenance
We will discuss with you how best to fit the toupée, but we do not recommend a weave as it can exacerbate a hair loss condition. Even the best cared for toupée will need to be replaced on a regular basis due to wear and the changing areas of baldness on the wearer’s head and shade of remaining hair.
