Synthetic Wig Care – Advice From Simone Thomas Dorset Hair Loss Clinic
Below are some great tips from Simone Thomas hair loss clinic and hairdressers in Bournemouth on the care of your synthetic wig:
- Do not use any heat on your wig such as tongs or hairdryer – this could melt the wig because it is, after all, not real hair.
- Be careful when you open an oven or dishwasher door as the rising heat and moisture may frizz the ends of the wig.
- Recommended frequencies for your wig washing, every 8 to 14 times of wear depending on air and humidity.
Please note continual wearing of a synthetic wig will result in frizzing at the base, especially at collar length or longer. This is due to body heat affecting the fibres.
If you have a short haired wig brush through and ruffle up with fingers to keep the appearance natural. If you have a long haired synthetic wig brush the wig from the bottom working your way up the wig. After fitting your wig, make sure the strands have not folded under.
Hair Replacement Systems – Washing your synthetic hair wig
Use lukewarm water to wet down your wig. Rinse in the same direction as the hair. This is not necessary with a short haired wig.Apply shampoo, massage gently into your wig then rinse the shampoo out thoroughly, again using lukewarm water.
Apply conditioner evenly through your wig, leave on for 5 minutes then rinse the conditioner out thoroughly, again using lukewarm water. Place your wig into a towel and gently pat it. Leave it in the towel for 2 minutes.
Comb wig through and give it a shake. Place onto a wig stand and brush it into the style, leave to dry overnight and it will dry back to that exact style.
