Fabia’s Hair Loss Story

fabia hair loss case study

Fabia Cerra struggled with her self-esteem even before hair loss became an issue. Now 41, she sadly tried to commit suicide in her 20s when the breakdown of a relationship left her broken hearted. It was a dramatic night and her hair was badly burnt in the process.

“I just couldn’t see a reason to carry on living,” Fabia said. “But, at the last minute, I realised what was happening and got the help I needed.”

Her hair loss was then, unfortunately, a constant reminder of an emotional period in her life.

“I was putting my life back together but my hair was badly damaged,” said Fabia, from Oxford. “I tried so many different products and treatments. In the end, the best result I could get was with a £4 clip-on bun from Boots! I twisted my hair round so I could wear the bun at the front and hide the hair loss as much as possible.”

But Fabia was determined not to hide away and started taking burlesque dance lessons to help her rediscover her sexy side and to meet new people. She enjoyed them so much she now teaches other ladies and specialises in hen parties.

“It’s very important to me that people realise that buxom is beautiful! It gave me confidence… it is lovely to be able to pass that on.”

Fabia’s Story – Female Hair Loss

In fact her confidence was so high, she felt ready to take on the toughest critic of them all… Simon Cowell. She impressed not only Cowell but also the nation on Britain’s Got Talent in 2009, reaching the semi-finals. She also returned in 2011 as part of BGT’s Favourite Acts.

She was praised by Cowell, Piers Morgan and Amanda Holden, who admired Fabia’s sexy style.

Fabia inspires her students not just by her sexy dance moves but her infectious positivity and her cheeky, playful nature. She is fun, flirty and fabulous! She has been diagnosed bipolar and her son, Leone, also has special needs but she faces the world with good old-fashioned grit and glamour.

“The classes were the highlight of my week when I was getting better and they are still the highlight of my week now,” she said. “I love to see my students get body confident – it’s more important than ever now, in the summer. We are more than beach-ready, we are bedroom ready!”

Her hair loss was always an issue, however. Fabia is delightfully retro but that look starts with the hair. Her clip-on buns simply weren’t good enough to complete the look.

She was in a good place when she found the multi-award winning Simone Thomas, the UK’s top hair loss specialist, but now, thanks to Simone’s extensive wig range and unrivalled knowledge, Fabia is turning back the clock and has a whole new lease of life and a whole new hairstyle.

“I’m so grateful to Simone. My new look is the final piece of the jigsaw puzzle of my recovery. I feel amazing!”

Simone says: “Fabia is a beautiful woman, inside and out, and I found her story emotional and inspiring. I’m so happy I’ve been able to help her regain her confidence and, in turn, inspire others.”

Fabia supports Against Breast Cancer in Abingdon and has also written two books about her experiences – ‘In 2 Minds’ and ‘Ciao Bella’, both of which are available on Amazon.

“Her tireless charity work, her devotion to her son, her fun and flirty dance classes – she now has the hair to go with her lifestyle,” Simone said.

“Hair loss affects people of all ages, shapes and sizes but there is so much that can be done to help.

“Don’t settle for a cheap clip-on hair piece from the high street – from products, to hair pieces, to lifelike hair replacement systems made from human hair, I am constantly redesigning and updating my range to ensure I can cater for all my customers, however their hair loss journey began.

“While Fabia’s story is extreme, stress is a common cause of hair loss. Modern life moves so fast, sometimes our bodies struggle to keep up! I want people to know that some types of hair extensions and sub-standard products can make things worse – my range is all about rejuvenation. Confidence from the top of your head to the tips of your toes.

“Mental health is a serious and topical issue and I’m so happy that, in Fabia’s case, there is a happy ending.”
