4 Tips to make your hair colour last longer

Changing your hair colour can make you feel great. Whether you are retouching your highlights, trying balayage for the first time or changing to a bright bold colour, you want your new style to last as long as possible.  Read our top tips from our hair colour experts at the Simone Thomas hair salon in Bournemouth and Wokingham on how to keep your coloured hair looking vibrant and glossy.

Always opt for professional hair colour

The low price of box hair dye may be tempting but their results can be unpredictable and look unnatural. We are often visited by new clients who need our help to fix the bad outcome of a hair dye kit! At the Simone Thomas hairdressers in Bournemouth and Wokingham, our hair experts will provide a professional hair colour consultation to ensure you get the rich colour you want.

Wait 24 hours before washing your hair

Resist the urge to wash your hair after you have had it professionally dyed. Hair dye continues to settle in the hair for up to 24 hours even after your colour treatment is finished. By shampooing your hair, you risk rinsing out the colour before its finished! Instead, opt for rinsing your hair with cold water.

Protect your hair with Olaplex

Dying your hair, especially if your hair treatment involves bleaching, can leave hair damaged and brittle. Protect your hair between treatment with Olaplex, a restorative hair treatment to repair coloured hair and protect it in between colouring treatments.

Avoid excessive heat

Hair colouring can dry out your hair. Avoid drying your hair out by avoiding heated styling tools, such as curlers or straighteners. If you must blow-dry your hair, use a low-heat setting. If your hair is exposed to a lot of sunlight (lucky you!), use an SPF spray or leave-in conditioner to protect your hair from the heat.
