Why Use A Hair Mask

Davines Circle Chronicles

Why We Love Davines Hair Masks At Simone Thomas Hair Salon in Westbourne

Day to day environmental stressors can really take their toll on our locks.  Our hair is exposed to heat from hair dryers and straighteners, chemicals including dyes and bleach, UV rays and summer heat as well as cold winds and humidity.  It’s not surprising that our crowning glory doesn’t always look quite as shiny and healthy as it could!

And that’s where hair masks come in.  They act as treatments that help to keep your hair looking beautiful while working to improve it’s inner strength and structure.

Everyone’s hair has different needs when it comes to keeping it looking and feeling it’s very best, which is why we recommend the Davines Circle Chronicles range of hair masks.  These vegan products have hair restoring super-powers and can be adapted to your particular hair concerns.

Book an appointment at our hairdressing salon in Westbourne to discover the difference that a mask from the  range can make to your hair.  We can advise you on the best masks to use as part of your home hair care range too.

Relax with a hair maskWhat’s The Difference Between A Hair Mask And A Conditioner?

After washing your hair it’s important to treat it with either a conditioner or mask, but you need to remember that these are two different types of product, and they are not designed to be interchangeable.

Conditioner should be used every time you wash hair with shampoo and can be used daily. We recommend using  a conditioner from Davines, available from our online shop.

Masks, on the other hand, aren’t designed for daily use.   Thanks to their rich texture and active ingredients that deeply penetrate strands, hair masks act on the hair more intensively than conditioners.   If use to frequently they can weigh down the hair, so they are best used regularly but not with every wash.

How to apply a hair mask

To get the best from your hair mask, follow these easy steps:

  1.  Wash your hair and rinse well to remove all traces of shampoo.
  2. Pat dry hair with a towel to remove the excess water.
  3. Apply the hair mask on the lengths and ends of your hair, distributing it evenly.
  4. Refer to the instructions and leave the mask on the hair for the advised amount of time.
  5. Rinse thoroughly to remove every trace of the mask.  You don’t need to leave it in longer than instructed as this won’t enhance the effect, but could result in your hair becoming oily more quickly.
  6. Pat your hair dry gently with a towel initially, then you can blow dry it at a moderate temperature.
  7. When you are able to, we recommend letting your hair dry naturally.  Not only does this reduce stress on the hair fibre, but you will also save energy and reduce CO2 emissions.

Restore shine with a davines hair maskHow long does the mask have to stay on?

It’s very important to leave your hair treatment on for the correct amount of time to ensure it works effectively. Ten minutes is the average, but this may vary.  Always read the instructions for use on the product.

Luckily, the Davines Circle Chronicles range has masks which require varying lengths of time to work properly, meaning you can still boost your hair even when you are in a hurry!

How much time do you have available?

5 Minutes

If you’re short on timer, choose a quick application mask such as The Quick Fix.  This is suitable for all hair types and most importantly, delivers fantastic results in just five minutes!

No Time At All

Don’t worry, we still have a mask for you!  If you’re always on the run. we recommend the Restless Circle invisible mask!   It turns transparent after application so you can leave it on as you get on with your day.  Remember to remove it later with a speedy shower!

How do I use a hair mask?

Using too much of your mask will not improve results, and may just make it harder to rinse out!

The right amount of mask to use is depends:

  • Your hair length
  • The thickness of your hair
  • Areas where hair needs the most care

Masks are usually applied to the lengths and the ends of your hair, but there are specific Davines treatments designed for use on the scalp too.  This includes The Purity Circle, a bamboo charcoal mask formulated for people with very oily hair, or those who live in polluted areas and wish to help cleanse and revitalise their scalp.

Davines Hair Masks Bournemouth SalonWhich hair mask should I choose?

We recommend using different masks for areas of your hair and scalp that have different needs.  You can try using multiple masks together at the same time to get the best possible overall result.

For example, you could try The Purity Circle on your roots and scalp and then layer a restorative mask such as The Renaissance Circle on lengths and ends.  This will also make your hair treatments last longer, if you use them just where they are needed most!

Whether you want to restore hopeless hair, add shine and vitality or soothe your scalp, there’s a Davines mask for you.  To help you decide, you can see the full range of treatments available at our Westbourne salon by clicking here.

How often should I apply a hair mask?

We usually recommend applying a hair mask twice a month, but this will depend on your hair’s particular needs, as well as the number of times you wash it and the other products you use.

Check the instructions on your mask for more advice or speak to your Simone Thomas stylist who will be happy to help.

We always recommend that you take time to pay careful attention to your hair when developing a hair care routine.  If it starts to feel dry and brittle, apply a treatment straight away and make a note on your calendar.  This will help you to work out how long the effects of the mask work on your hair and develop a routine that works for you.
